Scholarship Endowment Created
Edwin and Margaret Lee gave $100,000 to the University of California's Chinese Alumni Association to create the Perpetual Scholarship Fund. It will enable the University to give two scholarships of approximately $2,000 each annually to students with financial need. Edwin and their two sons are Cal alums.
AAPIP Awards $220,000 to AAPI Minnesota Groups
As part of the National Gender and Equity Campaign, AAPIP has awarded $220,00 in grants to 22 Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations to participate in community engagement activities through April 2008. The campaign was created to strengthen and build AAPI community infrastructure.
Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation Commits $1.2 Million
The philanthropic arm of Deutsche Bank committed $1.2 million to local cultural organizations and community revitilization in New York through its Arts and Enterprise Program. The Asian American Arts Alliance is a beneficiary. The Alliance is a consortium of arts and community groups dedicated to strengthening Asian American arts and cultural groups in NYC through funding, visibility initiatives and access to new resources. The grant will support the Alliance's enhanced marketing and communications platform for the many cultural groups of Chinatown.
Comcast Launches $5 Million National Multi-Cultural Voter Education & Registration Campaign
The campaign features four multi-cultiral public service announcements and the creation of two voter education resources; www.ourtimetovote.com and hotline, 1.866.544.VOTE. The PSAs for the Asian American community will feature Margaret Cho. The Comcast Foundation also awarded a grant to the Asian Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) to support nonpartisan voter outreach efforts.
Horizon Foundation Funds API Groups
Horizons Foundation, a philanthropic social justice organization serving the lesbian, gay, busexual, and transgender community in the Bay Area awarded $213,607 in grants to local nonprofits. Reccipients included AIDS Legal Referral Panel for its Immigrant HIV Assitance Program, Asian and Pacific Islander Family Pride, Asian Pacific Islander Roundtable, and funding for social events and anti-homophobia educational programs for the Vietnamese-American community.
