The 12/17/07 issue of Business Week magazine has a section on 'Give Back Careers'. Two articles caught my attention:
There is an interview with Mark Friedman, founder of Civic Ventures, about his new new book, Encore: Finding Work that Matters in the Second Half of Life. He talks about baby boomers and their desire to start a second career in the social sector. Mark calls them 'encore careers' - someone who wants to earn income, find new meaning and use their accumulated experiences in ways that have a positive impact on society.
Another article pointed out the reasons for joining a nonprofit board, "appointments are de facto pre-requisites for corporate board hopefuls and can create powerful networking opportunities along with a chance to do good work in your community." Well, it is a business magazine...
