~ This is a great opportunity for executive directors of Asian American non-profit organizations. The Harvard Business School Asian American Alumni Association is sponsoring one executive director to attend the Harvard Business School's Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management Program (SPNM). Over 6 days, participants are challenged by faculty and colleagues to strengthen their capacity and to improve the effectiveness of their organizations. The requirements are that: (1) you should be an executive director of your non-profit; (2) your organization must offer services which clearly benefit the Asian American community; and (3) your organization must have an annual operating budget of a least $500,000. ~ ASPIRE is requesting nominations for the ASPIRE Outstanding Woman of the Year Award. ASPIRE is a Boston-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Asian American high school and college girls with career development and leadership skills through shared experiences and mentoring. The award celebrates outstanding Asian American women in high school or college making a difference in their communities. The recipient will be recognized at the 2008 Asian American Women in Leadership conference on April 26, 2008.
Awarded & Granted
~ The Asian Pacific Fund announced the recipients of the 2007 Chang-Lin Tien Educational Leadership Awards recently. The awards program honors the legacy of Chang-lin Tien, the first Asian American to head a major American research university. Norman C. Tien, Dean of the Case School of Engineering at Case Western University and Frank H. Wu, Dean of the Wayne State University Law School will each receive an unrestricted grant of $10,000. According to a 2005 report by the Committee of 100, Asian Americans hold 6% of all faculty positions (40,000) at American universities, but only 1.5% of university president positions. Asian Americans typically make up 10 to 30% of students at the nation's leading colleges and universities.
~ The Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF): eight community organizations from around the country have been selected to receive community grants totaling $4.8 million. 130 organizations sent in Letters of Intent, 30 of them were invited to submit full proposals and 8 organizations were funded. The grants are part of the $16.5 million national community investment partnership with W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Health Through Action for Asian Americans, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders.
