* The Chicago Global Donors Forum Annual Conference on International Giving will take place on October 29-30 in Chicago. The conference highlights Chicago-based donors and practitioners in philanthropy who are making a critical impact on the most challenging global issues of our day. The conference provides participants with unique opportunities to increase their knowledge about key global issues, increase their understanding of effective philanthropic strategies to address the global issues they care about and make connections to other global donors who can serve as resources and partners.
* The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) announced the 2009 recipients of its Community Health Leaders Award. Rajiv Kumar, chairman and co-founder of Shape Up RI, is being honored for his efforts to establish and execute a team-based program for Rhode Island residents to address obesity challenges and improve their health through exercise and healthy eating. Sonith Peou, program director, Metta Health Center, Lowell, Mass., is being honored for his efforts to assure access to culturally competent health services for the large Cambodian-American community in Lowell, Mass. The Metta Health Center integrates primary medical care, behavioral health services and refugee health assessments with traditional medical practices such as Buddhist monk consultations and traditional healing, acupuncture and nutrition counseling.
